You can cover your imperfections!
For an unfortunate few, trying to cover up acne is a lifetime goal but, most of us are trying to make the best of our unique situations. Some of the coverage/foundation products have worked and some are not worth the bottle they're in. If you have this problem, then you probably have used products which make your acne look worse! What follows is a few of the products I consider must-haves in my fight with acne and none are unreasonable priced.
First, prepare your face by cleansing, exfoliating and toning. More info is at "The Poor woMan's Guide to Treating and Preventing Acne".
To cover acne, I first use Maybelline Coverstik Concealer in a shade 2x lighter than my skin. I dot it heavily on the pimple/scar as needed to cover it well. Then barely touching, I soften the edges, blending only enough to keep the blemish covered and blending the "color" to match my skin as much as possible. This takes a very light touch. The trick is to not rub it all the way into the skin, leaving a layer on top. The zit is darker and we're aiming for the middle. Then, if it all looks good I add lots of loose powder to set. Then, leave it be. Repeat as needed.
Looking for a good power? After the coverstik, I use Covergirl Mineral Bronzer. Not only does it look natural but it also blends the acne cover-ups and adds a tan. It's also pretty inexpensive. What more could you ask for?
To apply, I typically start on my eyelids adding definition immediately. Be sure to start lightly, patting around larger areas, then blend into the corners. I like to take a clean blush brush and blend lightly all over. This is one item where I buy the best quality I can afford. You can wash them and a better brush will last 4X longer than a cheap one and doesn't leave "hairs" all over your face.
If you want something that looks really natural to even your skin tone, try ALMAY Smart Shade liquid Bronzer, the poor woman's spray tan. In a small area at a time, start with a little and give it a minute or so to dry before adding too much. It goes on a little dark and fades to a nice tan without looking like you're wearing make-up. If all you need is a sunshine kiss, this works great. My close friend asked if I have gotten some sun! (If it’s a super oily day, try this and a light loose powder to help fight the battle.) Once it's dry, it's part of your skin.
If you're mostly pre-wrinkle, you should try Revlon Colorstay Makeup (oil free). I still use it occasionally when I have a bad outbreak. It provides the best coverage and lasts all day but feels a little heavy. I save this for emergencies only now; it will emphasize any wrinkles.
